This year, instead of cutting a cake at a restaurant, I chose to celebrate my birthday at Kalashram by Caring Hands in Ambi and it turned out to be the most fulfilling birthday of my life. I brought new clothes for the children. The moment I handed them out and saw the kids' eyes light up, I forgot every gift I had ever received. The staff welcomed me so warmly, and Mrs. Manasi personally thanked me and shared each child's little story. Founder Mr. Ambadas Chavan sir's vision is visible in every corner of that place, clean rooms, happy faces, the structure and love. I had expected to give something; I came back having received so much more, pure joy and gratitude. I will make this a birthday tradition every year from now on. ~ Kiran D

12 years at Kalashram shaped my soul. I came in as a frightened child from a difficult home situation in rural Maharashtra and left as a young man with a clear sense of purpose. The holistic environment here, education, nutrition, health, sports, arts, showed me what a good society could look like if it truly invested in its children. I went on to study social work, and today I manage community programmes for an NGO that works with underprivileged youth across Pune and Nashik. The irony is not lost on me: the very skills Kalashram used to raise me are now the skills I use in my work. The yoga, the cultural competitions, the health check-ups, they were not activities, they were lessons in dignity. I am proud to have grown under Chavan sir's vision, and I bring groups of my programme beneficiaries to visit Kalashram as living proof that this place transforms lives. ~ Ananta G

Carefully designed old edge home and orphan home. What I liked is these children are really very sensible for giving a nice company and taking little care of senior citizens and complementing these grand pa and grand ma also takes care of these grand children and groom them. It's really a nice thought of their combination which can satisfy the emotional feelings by either way. It's more than a win win situation and a need of the hour. Makers made it in a way that the person getting admission shall feel homely. I arrived at Kalashram at the age of 9, with nothing but fear and uncertainty. What I found was a family. Ambadas sir didn't just give us shelter, they gave us belief. The education here built my foundation, and the teachers pushed me to think beyond survival. I went on to complete my engineering from Pune University and today work as a software engineer at an MNC in Hinjewadi. Every time I face a difficult sprint at work, I remember the discipline I learned at Kalashram. I visit every Diwali to meet the students and staff, that place will always be home. ~ Prathamesh N

Kalashram is a subsidiary of NGO Caring Hands located at Talegaon Dabhade, Pune, Maharashtra. We care for the downtrodden aboriginal deprived children. We have pledged for their upliftment in the field of education, food, shelter, clothing, culture, sports and many other things which are denied by their parents due to poverty and even the society. As a nutritionist, I got a chance to visit Kalashram in Ambi, Pune, and conducted a nutrition session with the students and staff.
